julian pugsley
Julian was born in Bath, England, and has spent the majority of his life working around the world, initially as an award-winning agency creative, then making the leap to director after attending film school at New York University. “As an ex-creative, you know the creatives’ side of things and can empathize with what they’ve been through to get it to this point. They expect you to take it to the next level. I look for that simple, core idea and try to express it in a way — with clarity and directness — that will make people feel something. Once the idea is identified in its simplest form, I will develop and build everything around it, layer upon layer upon layer. I’m big on collaboration and will establish a camaraderie in which everyone is free to contribute ideas and to challenge each other as well as have a good time.” Julian is known for his varied comedy work. Sometimes subtle, riotously funny, and meaningful, but always well-acted and visually gorgeous. Julian has shot award-winning work with agencies worldwide, including BBH, BBDO, DDB, Droga5, Fred & Farid, Fallon, Jung Von Matt, Leo Burnett, Mischief, McCann, McKinney, Kolle Rebbe, Scholz & Friends, and Publicis, among others. His projects have been recognized at Cannes, One Show, and Clio and regularly featured in Shots, Archive, Adweek, Ad Age’s Campaign, Creativity, Communication Arts, Esquire, and The New York Times.
