“THE MOST AWARDED BELGIUM DIRECTOR EVER” ScreenVision. “EVERY NEW COMMERCIAL IS A LITTLE SHORT MOVIE !” Shots. “L’HUMBLE ROI DES SPOTS.” Le Vif l’Expess. “MAIRESSE REACHES FOR THE HEAVEN” Boards. The Belgian director Xavier Mairesse has a master’s degree in Journalism & Communication at University of Brussels. After completing his studies he started working as film Editor. After this he left Belgium for Canada, where he started working in the Cinema Industry on several American productions. He became Assistant Director at 26 years old on blockbusters like “Battlefield Earth”, directed by Roger Christian with John Travolta, Barry Pepper and Forest Whitaker. He has worked with Robin Williams (Sky TV), Bruce Willis, Daniel Auteuil, Juliette Binoche (La Veuve de St Pierre), Leslie Nielsen (2001 A Space Travesty), David Fox and Peter Egan. Mixing a narrative style with special effects with a cinematic look Xavier has made a name for himself as one of the most interesting and spectacular directors in Europe. In 2002, Xavier wins the Young World Director Award for first commercial at Cannes festival. This accelerates his career. Jump forward to June 2014 and Xavier adds another clutch of Lions at Cannes which brings his collection to 14 and as one witty industry insider commented, “that is enough Lions to open a private zoo!” The Lions are in addition to the Clio’s, D&AD, Epica, Lynx and London International Awards awards he has won. This makes Xavier won of the most awarded directors in Europe. Xavier’s inside knowledge of the “nuts and bolts” of filmmaking and his hands on approach in all aspects of a project are the key ingredients to create his “mini movies.”
